Job 1: Sump pump replacement, Babylon. Homeowner called after a rainstorm — pump had stopped running and the pit was nearly full. Motor was seized. Replaced with a new 1/2 HP cast iron submersible and installed a battery backup unit so they would be covered during the next power outage.
Job 2: Main drain clearing, Babylon. Kitchen and bathroom drains backing up simultaneously — classic sign of a main line clog. Snaked the main from the cleanout, pulled out a combination of grease and roots near the street connection. Line flowing freely. Recommended a camera inspection given the age of the clay lateral.
Job 3: Water heater replacement, Babylon. 17-year-old 40-gallon gas water heater was leaking from the bottom tank seam. Replaced with a Bradford White 50-gallon atmospheric vent gas unit. Haul-away included. Customer had the old unit since they bought the house.
Job 4: Frozen pipe emergency, Babylon. Uninsulated copper supply pipe along an exterior garage wall burst during a January cold snap. Repaired the split section, wrapped the run with foam insulation, and applied heat tape. Explained where the main shut-off was — the homeowner had not known.
Job 5: Toilet replacement, Babylon. Flapper and fill valve had both failed on a late-1990s toilet. Rather than repair an old unit, customer opted for a new high-efficiency elongated toilet. Installed with new wax ring, supply line, and angle stop.
Job 6: Outdoor faucet repair, Babylon. Frost-free hose bib was dripping even when fully closed. Vacuum breaker had failed. Replaced the entire frost-free sillcock and properly sealed the exterior penetration against water intrusion.
Job 7: Boiler tune-up, Babylon. Annual service on a gas hot water boiler before heating season. Cleaned burners, tested pressure relief valve, checked aquastat settings, bled radiators on the second floor that were not heating properly. System running at full efficiency going into winter.
Job 8: Galvanized supply line repipe, Babylon. 1952 cape cod with original galvanized steel throughout. Water pressure to the upstairs bath was barely a trickle. Replaced galvanized runs with copper from the main shutoff to all fixtures. Pressure restored immediately.
