-- Plumbing Services in Smithtown

Smithtown is one of the larger towns in Suffolk County, covering a wide range of communities including the Smithtown hamlet itself, Nesconset, Saint James, and other surrounding areas. The housing stock ranges from 1950s and 1960s ranches and capes in the older neighborhoods to larger colonials and custom homes built through the 1980s and 1990s. All of it is at the age where plumbing systems need regular attention and periodic equipment replacement.

Water heater replacement is among our most frequent calls in Smithtown. The large 1970s and 1980s colonials in the area often have 50 or 75-gallon gas units that were installed when the house was built and have been running ever since. When a 20-year-old water heater finally gives out, it usually does so with a leak — which is why we always recommend having the conversation before you find a puddle. We install Bradford White units and can advise on whether a tankless system makes sense for your household.

Drain cleaning and boiler service round out a lot of our regular Smithtown work. The mid-Suffolk winters are cold enough that frozen pipe calls happen annually — especially in homes with pipes running through uninsulated garage walls or older crawl spaces. We also do a fair amount of gas line testing and repair work following the age-related wear on appliance connections in homes from the 1970s and 1980s.

USERCHECKINS

Job 1: Water heater replacement, Smithtown. 50-gallon gas water heater in a 1978 colonial — 21 years old, customer had noticed rumbling sounds and occasional rust-colored hot water. Replaced with a Bradford White 50-gallon power vent unit. Customer said the water pressure in the hot lines also improved after the old sediment-choked tank was gone.

Job 2: Drain cleaning — whole house, Smithtown. Multiple slow drains throughout a 1965 ranch. Snaked the kitchen, both bathrooms, and the main line from the exterior cleanout. Kitchen was grease, baths were hair and soap, main line had partial root intrusion at 40 feet. All clear.

Job 3: Boiler replacement, Smithtown. 23-year-old gas hot water boiler in a 1972 colonial — the circulator pump had seized and the heat exchanger was showing signs of fatigue. Rather than invest in repairs on an old unit, customer opted for a new high-efficiency boiler. Heat was fully restored within a day.

Job 4: Frozen pipe repair, Smithtown. January emergency call — burst copper pipe in a garage wall where the supply line to the upstairs bath ran along an uninsulated exterior wall. Repaired the split section, relocated the pipe run away from the exterior wall, and added insulation to the cavity.

Job 5: Gas line repair, Smithtown. Customer was having a gas stove replaced and the installer found the shut-off valve was corroded and would not close fully. Replaced the gas shut-off valve with a new ball valve. Tested the connection before the stove was reconnected.

Job 6: Bathroom fixtures — full replacement, Smithtown. Customer was renovating a 1975 bathroom and wanted a complete fixture replacement as part of the project. Replaced toilet, vanity faucet, and tub/shower valve. Reconnected all supply and drain lines. Coordinated with the tile contractor.

Job 7: Sump pump installation, Smithtown. Older ranch had a wet crawl space — never had a pump. Installed a sump pit and 1/3 HP submersible pump with discharge line to the exterior. Crawl space was noticeably dryer within the first few weeks.

Job 8: Recirculation pump installation, Smithtown. Large colonial with three full baths — the master bath at the far end of the house from the water heater took 2-plus minutes to get hot water. Installed a recirculation pump at the water heater with a timer and a comfort valve under the far bathroom sink. Hot water on demand.
