-- Plumbing Services in Dix Hills
Dix Hills is one of Suffolk County's more established suburban communities — a mix of large colonials and custom homes primarily from the 1970s and 1980s, with some newer construction mixed in. These are well-maintained homes with plumbing systems that are getting to the age where proactive replacement and service pay off.
Water heaters in Dix Hills homes tend to be larger capacity — many of the colonials and custom homes here have 75-gallon or larger units serving multiple bathrooms and high-demand households. When these units fail, the inconvenience is significant. We replace tank-style and install tankless systems for customers who want on-demand hot water without the footprint of a large tank. Bradford White makes our first-call tank recommendation; Navien is our tankless recommendation for most applications.
Boiler service is important in Dix Hills given the age of much of the heating equipment in the area. A boiler that has not been properly tuned in a few years burns fuel less efficiently and can develop issues that turn into expensive mid-winter emergency calls. We do annual tune-ups and repairs across Dix Hills and can tell you honestly whether your existing unit has years left or is approaching replacement territory.
USERCHECKINS
Job 1: Tankless water heater installation, Dix Hills. Customer in a large 4-bath colonial was tired of running out of hot water and wanted to eliminate the large storage tank. Installed a Navien NPE-240A2 natural gas condensing tankless unit. Ran new 3/4" gas supply and dedicated venting. Endless hot water, smaller footprint.
Job 2: Boiler replacement, Dix Hills. 24-year-old gas hot water boiler had developed a cracked heat exchanger — flue gases were entering the living space. Safety issue requiring immediate replacement. Installed a new high-efficiency boiler and re-balanced the zones. Customer noticed lower heating bills the first month.
Job 3: Main line drain cleaning, Dix Hills. Sluggish drains throughout a 1978 colonial. Snaked the main from the basement cleanout, cleared a root intrusion at the exterior foundation wall. Ran the camera after snaking — roots were from a large oak in the front yard. Recommended annual maintenance to stay ahead of it.
Job 4: Water heater replacement, Dix Hills. 75-gallon power vent unit in a large colonial — 16 years old and starting to show rust around the drain valve connection. Replaced with a matching Bradford White 75-gallon power vent. Matched the existing venting configuration to minimize work and disruption.
Job 5: Recirculation pump installation, Dix Hills. Master bath on the far end of a large ranch from the water heater — customer was running the tap for 2 to 3 minutes waiting for hot water. Installed a Grundfos comfort system recirculation pump on the water heater and a bypass valve at the far bathroom. Hot water within 30 seconds.
Job 6: Shower valve replacement, Dix Hills. Pressure-balancing shower valve in the master bath was not holding temperature — scalding and cold swings when another fixture was used. Replaced the cartridge and then the entire valve body when the cartridge replacement did not fully resolve it. Shower holds temperature properly now.
Job 7: Sump pump replacement, Dix Hills. Primary pump had failed silently — no alarm, no notification. Homeowner discovered it only when the pit was overflowing. Replaced with a new 1/2 HP unit and installed a high-water alarm so they would be notified immediately of any future failure.
Job 8: Garbage disposal replacement, Dix Hills. InSinkErator had seized up and was tripping the reset repeatedly. 11-year-old unit — not worth rebuilding. Replaced with a new 3/4 HP unit, including new mounting hardware and drain connection. Much quieter than the old unit.
