-- Plumbing Services in East Hampton
East Hampton presents a distinct set of plumbing demands. Many properties here are seasonal or part-time residences, which means winterization and spring startup are recurring needs — pipes that sit unused through a Long Island winter need to be properly drained and then carefully inspected before restoring service in the spring. A single frozen pipe in a vacant house can cause significant damage before anyone notices.
The area also includes a mix of historic homes in the village and newer construction throughout the township. Older East Hampton homes may have aging supply lines, outdated drain configurations, and water heaters that have been working harder than they should given seasonal demand spikes. We handle the diagnostics honestly — if something is safe to defer, we say so; if something needs attention before it becomes an emergency, we make that case clearly.
Proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding bays means salt air exposure is a real factor for exterior plumbing components — outdoor shower connections, hose bibs, and exterior venting all take more of a beating here than in inland communities. We use appropriate materials and fittings for coastal conditions and check these items during service calls.
USERCHECKINS
Job 1: Seasonal winterization, East Hampton. Seasonal home winterized before the owners departed for winter — drained all supply lines, blew compressed air through the distribution system, added antifreeze to all P-traps and the toilet bowls, shut off and drained the water heater. Property left protected for the season.
Job 2: Spring startup and inspection, East Hampton. Full plumbing inspection after a winter vacancy — checked all supply lines for frost damage, restored water service, tested all fixtures and toilets, inspected the water heater for any issues from sitting idle. Found one exterior hose bib with a cracked vacuum breaker; replaced it before the owner arrived for the season.
Job 3: Water heater replacement, East Hampton. 12-year-old 50-gallon electric water heater in a guest cottage. Replaced with a new Bradford White electric unit. Customer also asked us to install a timer so the heater would not run at full capacity during weeks the cottage was unoccupied.
Job 4: Sump pump installation, East Hampton. Crawl space had standing water — the property did not have a sump pit or pump. Excavated a pit, installed a 1/2 HP submersible pump with exterior discharge, and added a high-water alarm. Crawl space dry on the next heavy rainfall.
Job 5: Outdoor shower rebuild, East Hampton. Existing outdoor shower supply lines had corroded through at the wall penetration — combination of salt air and years of seasonal use. Replaced supply lines with proper outdoor-rated materials, rebuilt the mixing valve connection, and pressure-tested before the season.
Job 6: Drain backing up — guest bathroom, East Hampton. Bathtub drain slow for the second consecutive summer season. Snaked the drain line — found significant soap and mineral scale buildup typical of a home on a private well with hard water. Cleared and flushed, recommended a water softener to reduce future buildup.
Job 7: Toilet fill valve and flapper replacement, East Hampton. Running toilets in two bathrooms — customers noticed the water bill was unusually high. Both fill valves were worn. Replaced fill valves and flappers in both bathrooms at the same visit.
Job 8: Gas line inspection and repair, East Hampton. Customer noticed a rotten egg smell near the basement utility area during spring startup. Found a slow leak at a gas appliance fitting that had worked loose over the winter. Tightened and tested the connection, confirmed no further leak with detector.
