-- Plumbing Services in Islip
Islip sits along the South Shore of Suffolk County, and like the neighboring communities of Bay Shore and West Islip, the proximity to the Great South Bay means flooding and groundwater are recurring concerns for homeowners here. Sump pumps are a standard part of the basement in most Islip homes, and making sure they are functioning properly — and that there is a backup in place for power outages — is one of the most important plumbing calls we make in this area.
The housing stock in Islip covers a wide range — older village homes on the west side, postwar ranches and capes in the neighborhoods closer to the bay, and more recent construction toward the LIE corridor. The older homes frequently have cast iron drain lines that have cracked or corroded over decades, and supply lines that are original galvanized steel. Both of these are situations where repair is not enough — replacement is the real solution.
We handle the full range of plumbing in Islip: drain clearing, water heater installation and replacement, boiler service, sewer line camera inspection and repair, fixture installation, and emergency calls. Mike Caruso has been working the Islip area and surrounding South Shore communities since 2009.
USERCHECKINS
Job 1: Sump pump installation with battery backup, Islip. Customer's unfinished basement had no sump pump — they had been dealing with water intrusion for years, mopping up after every heavy rain. Excavated a proper pit, installed a 1/2 HP primary pump and battery backup combo unit. First storm — completely dry.
Job 2: Cast iron main drain replacement, Islip. 1953 ranch with original cast iron below the basement slab. Camera inspection showed extensive corrosion and partial collapse in two sections. Excavated through the basement floor, replaced the entire below-slab run with new PVC. One and done.
Job 3: Water heater replacement, Islip. 50-gallon electric unit in a waterfront property — homeowner reported it had stopped producing hot water. Upper heating element had burned out. Rather than repair a 14-year-old unit, replaced with a new Bradford White 50-gallon electric with a 10-year warranty.
Job 4: Emergency water main repair, Islip. Water was bubbling up through the front lawn — the copper water service from the street to the house had a pinhole leak developing into a full break. Excavated the failed section, replaced with new copper, and restored service the same day.
Job 5: Boiler repair — zone valve failure, Islip. One zone of baseboard heat in a 1970s colonial was not heating. Found a failed zone valve on the return side of that circuit. Replaced the zone valve and verified all three zones were operating correctly.
Job 6: Bathroom rough-in, Islip. Customer was converting a finished basement to include a full bath. Roughed in the drain and supply lines for a toilet, shower, and vanity. Connected to the existing 4" cast iron stack via a sanitary tee and properly vented the new fixtures.
Job 7: Kitchen faucet and supply stop replacement, Islip. Pull-out faucet had a cracked spray head and the customer wanted a full upgrade. Removed old faucet, replaced both angle stop valves (original brass compression valves from the 1980s — very stiff), installed new single-handle pull-down unit.
Job 8: Frozen outdoor spigot, Islip. A vacuum breaker on the exterior hose bib had cracked from freezing — water was dripping through the exterior wall. Replaced the frost-free sillcock, sealed the exterior penetration, and confirmed the interior shutoff was working.
