-- Plumbing Services in North Babylon

North Babylon is a residential community in the Town of Babylon with a large concentration of postwar housing — capes, ranches, and split-levels built from the late 1940s through the 1960s. Many of these homes still have original or near-original plumbing infrastructure, which means galvanized steel supply lines, cast iron drain stacks, and in some cases sewer laterals that have been in the ground for 70 years.

Galvanized supply line replacement is a significant part of our work in North Babylon. The internal corrosion of galvanized steel pipe is not visible from the outside — you notice it when the water pressure at your fixtures drops steadily over years, or when you run both the kitchen and a bathroom simultaneously and one nearly stops. Repiping with copper or PEX is the permanent fix, and we do it properly — not a patch, but a full replacement of the failing system.

Sump pumps are also relevant to many North Babylon homes. While North Babylon is not right on the bay like Babylon to the south, the water table in the area is high enough that basement moisture is a common issue, particularly for homes with older construction and limited waterproofing. A functioning sump pump keeps the basement dry through wet seasons. We install and service primary pumps and battery backup systems.

USERCHECKINS

Job 1: Galvanized supply line repipe, North Babylon. 1951 cape cod — water pressure had been declining for years. Original galvanized supply lines throughout. Replaced with 3/4" copper main and 1/2" copper branches to all fixtures. Pressure was dramatically improved immediately.

Job 2: Water heater replacement, North Babylon. 40-gallon gas unit in a ranch — 17 years old, leaking from the pressure relief valve discharge pipe, which was a sign of internal pressure issues. Replaced with a new Bradford White 50-gallon unit. Did not repair the old unit given its age.

Job 3: Sump pump installation, North Babylon. Finished basement had taken water during several rainstorms — no sump pump in place. Excavated a pit in a corner of the basement, installed a 1/2 HP submersible pump with battery backup, and ran discharge to the exterior. Basement stayed dry through the next three major rain events.

Job 4: Cast iron drain clearing, North Babylon. Recurring kitchen backup in a 1959 house — original cast iron stack. Snaked the kitchen line from the drum machine at the cleanout, cleared a substantial grease accumulation at the first elbow. Also ran water through to confirm the main was clear.

Job 5: Boiler service — steam system, North Babylon. Gas steam boiler in a 1947 house with the original cast iron radiators. Annual service found the low-water cutoff was fouled. Cleaned and tested the LWCO, adjusted the pressuretrol, skimmed the boiler water. Radiators were heating on both floors for the first time in two years.

Job 6: Toilet replacement, North Babylon. Original 1960s toilet — poor flush performance and the tank internals had been repaired multiple times. Customer opted for a full replacement. Installed a new dual-flush elongated unit with a proper 1.28 GPF flush.

Job 7: Outdoor hose bib — cracked vacuum breaker, North Babylon. Hose bib was dripping behind the siding — the vacuum breaker had cracked from freezing after a hose was left connected. Replaced the frost-free sillcock and sealed the wall penetration. Advised on disconnecting hoses before the first freeze.

Job 8: Leak detection — water meter running, North Babylon. Customer noticed the water meter was spinning when all fixtures were off. Located a pinhole leak in a copper branch line in the basement ceiling. Opened the drywall, soldered a repair coupling, restored the ceiling. Meter stopped spinning.
