-- Plumbing Services in Setauket
Setauket is one of the historic communities on Suffolk County's North Shore, encompassing East Setauket, Setauket, and the surrounding area in the Town of Brookhaven. The area includes a mix of older colonial-era homes in the historic village area, mid-20th century residential development, and more recent construction in the neighborhoods around Stony Brook University and along the North Shore corridor.
The older homes in Setauket proper and East Setauket include some of the most historic residential properties in Suffolk County. Homes from the 18th and 19th centuries that have not been extensively renovated may have plumbing that has been layered in over multiple generations — original lead supply lines replaced with galvanized, galvanized later partially replaced with copper, with each generation of repairs addressing the most immediate issue. We work carefully in these homes, diagnosing the full system before recommending what needs to be done.
Water heater service, boiler maintenance, and drain clearing are the bread and butter of our Setauket work. The North Shore winters are hard on heating equipment, and a boiler that has been running without a tune-up for several years is burning fuel inefficiently and building toward a mid-winter emergency. We take pre-season service seriously.
USERCHECKINS
Job 1: Water heater replacement, Setauket. Bradford White 50-gallon gas power vent unit in a 1985 colonial — customer noticed the unit was 17 years old after a home inspection for a refinance. Replaced before it became an emergency. New unit is more efficient and the customer qualified for a utility rebate.
Job 2: Boiler service — hot water baseboard, Setauket. Annual tune-up on a two-zone gas hot water boiler in a 1960s ranch. Cleaned the burner, tested zone valves, checked the expansion tank, bled baseboard loops. Found air in the second-floor zone that had been causing uneven heating. Bled the zone and heat was even on both floors.
Job 3: Sewer line inspection — pre-purchase, Setauket. New homebuyers wanted a camera inspection of the sewer lateral in a 1950s East Setauket home before closing. Camera confirmed the lateral was clay pipe with minor joint separation at two locations but no immediate failure. Buyers proceeded with knowledge of what they were inheriting.
Job 4: Frozen pipe — exterior wall, Setauket. Burst copper supply line in a wall that faced north with inadequate insulation. Repaired the break, opened the wall cavity and added insulation, recommended the homeowner have the exterior wall properly air-sealed and insulated.
Job 5: Kitchen sink fixture replacement, Setauket. Customer was renovating the kitchen and wanted the plumbing updated. Installed a new pull-down faucet, replaced both supply stops with quarter-turn ball valves, replaced the garbage disposal, and installed a new air gap for the dishwasher.
Job 6: Toilet replacement — dual bath, Setauket. Both bathrooms in a 1975 colonial had original toilets — 3.5 GPF units that were using excessive water. Replaced both with new 1.28 GPF comfort-height elongated toilets. Saved significant water usage per flush across the household.
Job 7: Outdoor hose bib freeze damage, Setauket. Two exterior hose bibs on a home — one had cracked internally from freezing (hose had been left on). Replaced the failed unit. Tested the second — vacuum breaker was fine. Reminded the homeowner about disconnecting hoses for winter.
Job 8: Gas line for generator connection, Setauket. Homeowner was installing a standby generator and needed a gas line run from the existing gas meter to the generator pad. Ran a new 1" gas supply line and installed a manual shut-off. Pressure-tested and certified before the generator was connected.
