-- Plumbing Services in West Babylon
West Babylon is a South Shore community in the Town of Babylon with a large residential base of postwar housing — capes, ranches, and split-levels that were built during the 1950s and 1960s suburban expansion. Many of these homes are on their second or third generation of homeowners, but the original plumbing infrastructure is often still in place and showing its age.
Like much of the South Shore in this area, West Babylon has a relatively high water table, and basement water management is a real concern for homeowners during wet seasons and nor'easter events. Sump pump systems are an important part of keeping these basements dry. We install primary pumps with battery backup units so that when the power goes out during the storm that is causing the flooding — which happens frequently — the backup takes over automatically.
Galvanized supply pipe replacement is frequent work in West Babylon. Homes from the postwar era have galvanized steel that has been corroding from the inside for 60 to 70 years, and the effect on water pressure is significant. We do full repipes with copper or PEX that restore proper pressure throughout the house.
USERCHECKINS
Job 1: Sump pump and battery backup, West Babylon. Primary pump had failed — no indication it had stopped until the pit overflowed during a heavy rain. Replaced the primary pump and installed a battery backup unit with a high-water alarm so the homeowner would be notified before the next overflow.
Job 2: Galvanized supply repipe, West Babylon. 1957 ranch with original galvanized supply throughout. Pressure had dropped to almost nothing at the upstairs bath over the past few years. Replaced all galvanized lines with 3/4" copper main and 1/2" copper to fixtures. Dramatic pressure improvement.
Job 3: Water heater replacement, West Babylon. 40-gallon electric unit in a cape cod — 15 years old and both heating elements had failed. Rather than replace just the elements in a 15-year-old tank, installed a new Bradford White 50-gallon electric unit. More capacity, warranty coverage.
Job 4: Main sewer line root intrusion, West Babylon. Recurring slow drains — camera found roots in the clay lateral at a joint 22 feet from the house. Cleared with a root-cutting head. Recommended annual inspection due to a large tree in the front yard directly above the lateral run.
Job 5: Boiler no-heat emergency, West Babylon. February call — gas boiler had locked out. The igniter had failed. Replaced the igniter, cleaned the flame sensor, and ran through a full heating cycle to confirm reliable ignition. Heat restored within 90 minutes of the call.
Job 6: Toilet fill valve and supply line, West Babylon. Running toilet — water running continuously into the bowl. Fill valve had failed open. Replaced fill valve and flapper. Also replaced the corroded braided supply line that was bulging at one of the connections.
Job 7: Kitchen drain — grease clearing, West Babylon. Kitchen sink had been backing up periodically for months. Snaked the kitchen drain from the cleanout, cleared a substantial grease accumulation about 15 feet from the fixture. Flushed the line with hot water after clearing.
Job 8: Outdoor hose bib replacement, West Babylon. Two hose bibs on the house — one had frozen and cracked over the winter (hose left on). Replaced both units at the same visit and explained to the homeowner how to disconnect hoses and verify the interior valve before the first freeze.
