-- Plumbing Services in West Islip
West Islip is one of the South Shore communities that sits close to the Great South Bay, and like Bay Shore and Babylon nearby, flooding and groundwater management are real parts of life for homeowners here. The water table is high, basements in older homes can take water during heavy rain events, and nor'easters can push storm surge that overwhelms standard drainage. Sump pump systems — primary pump plus battery backup — are the standard solution, and we install and service them throughout West Islip.
The housing stock in West Islip includes a mix of postwar capes and ranches in the older neighborhoods and larger colonials from the 1970s and 1980s in the western and inland areas. Both housing types have plumbing that has reached the age of regular maintenance and replacement. Galvanized supply lines in the older homes are a consistent issue — they corrode internally and reduce water pressure to a trickle before homeowners realize what is happening.
Water heater replacement, drain clearing, boiler service, and sewer line work make up the bulk of our West Islip calls. We have been working the South Shore since 2009 and know what these homes need.
USERCHECKINS
Job 1: Sump pump system installation, West Islip. Waterfront home had flooded in the basement twice — no sump pump in place. Excavated a proper pit, installed a 3/4 HP cast iron primary pump and a battery backup unit in the same pit. Added a high-water alarm. Completely dry through the following storm season.
Job 2: Water heater replacement, West Islip. 50-gallon gas water heater in a 1969 colonial — 16 years old and producing lukewarm water in the mornings. Lower element on the electric was the culprit. Actually a gas unit — the thermocouple had failed intermittently. Replaced the entire unit with a new Bradford White 50-gallon gas power vent.
Job 3: Main sewer line camera and clearing, West Islip. Periodic backups in a 1962 ranch. Camera found root intrusion at two clay lateral joints and a partial collapse at 40 feet. Cleared the roots at the two intrusion points, confirmed the partial collapse was not total — monitored. Recommended a return camera inspection in 18 months.
Job 4: Galvanized supply repipe, West Islip. 1954 cape cod — original galvanized supply lines, water pressure nearly nonexistent at the second floor. Full repipe with copper. Pressure restored immediately.
Job 5: Emergency flood response, West Islip. Bay-front property — sump pump had run the battery backup dry during an extended nor'easter power outage. Basement took water. After the storm, replaced the failed primary pump, installed a larger battery backup, and added a second discharge line as overflow protection.
Job 6: Boiler service, West Islip. Gas hot water boiler in a 1970s colonial — annual tune-up. Cleaned burner, tested zone valves, bled baseboard loops, checked expansion tank. Found the pressure gauge was non-functional — replaced it. System running properly.
Job 7: Toilet replacement, West Islip. Running toilet in the main floor bathroom — fill valve had worn past adjustment. Customer also wanted an ADA-height toilet for accessibility. Replaced with a comfort-height elongated unit with a dual-flush mechanism.
Job 8: Outdoor hose bib and irrigation shut-off, West Islip. Customer wanted an irrigation system shut-off valve properly installed before winter. Added a ball-valve shut-off with a blowout port on the irrigation supply and winterized the two exterior hose bibs at the same visit.
